Bay, Zoltán (1900-1992)

Hungarian electrical engineer who succeeded in detecting the Moon Eric Weisstein's World of Astronomy with radar of 2.5 m wavelength on February 6, 1946--only two weeks after the success of de Witt and Project Diana. Because of lack of equipment, Bay used a battery of ten water voltmeters, which liberated hydrogen when exposed to radiation (Lovell 1990, pp. 179-180). The first scientifically useful radar echoes, however, were those made by Frank Kerr and Shain.
