Fraunhofer, Joseph von (1787-1826)
    

German physicist who investigated the spectrum of the sun and discovered the dark line spectrum (now known as Fraunhofer lines) in 1814. Fraunhofer is also known for his investigation of diffraction Eric Weisstein's World of Physics of light in systems with small Fresnel number, Eric Weisstein's World of Physics now called Fraunhofer diffraction Eric Weisstein's World of Physics in his honor.
