Janssen, Pierre (1824-1907)
    

French astronomer who discovered an unknown spectral line in the Sun Eric Weisstein's World of Astronomy in 1868. He forwarded the data to Lockyer, who is credited with the discovery of helium. Janssen was the first to note the granular appearance of the Sun, Eric Weisstein's World of Astronomy and published a monumental solar atlas in 1904 including 6000 photographs.
