Paschen, Louis (1865-1947)
    

German physicist who was probably the most skilled spectroscopist of his day. In 1895, he studied the helium spectrum and showed in was identical with lines seen in the sun by Janssen and Lockyer. In 1908, he discovered the infrared lines in the hydrogen spectrum produced when the electron Eric Weisstein's World of Physics drops to n = 3 energy level.
