Philolaus of Tarentum or Croton (ca. 480-unknown BC)
    

Was the most eminent of the Pythagorean school. He published the Pythagorean views for the general public. He thought the Earth Eric Weisstein's World of Astronomy and planets revolved around a central fire, and invented the concept of a counter-earth for numerological reasons.
