Teller, Edward (1908-)

Hungarian-American physicist who built the first hydrogen bomb Eric Weisstein's World of Physics with Ralph Lapp in 1949. He testified against Oppenheimer in trials before the House Unamerican Activities Committee, resulting in Oppenheimer's secret clearance being revoked. In recent years, Teller has championed the "Star Wars" missile defense system, despite the fact that such a system is hugely expensive and has no conceivable way of working.

Lapp, Oppenheimer
